LOS ANGELES — Chris Evans might have put down Captain America’s shield; however, he has another honourable symbol: he’s been named People magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive.
People’s selection was reported Monday night on Stephen Colbert’s late-night show and the magazine’s website. Evans, who played Captain America in Wonder’s sprawling superhero films for almost ten years, takes the mallet from another Avenger, Paul Rudd.
“My mother will be so blissful,” he told the magazine for its main story, which hits newsstands on Friday. “She’s pleased with all that I do, yet this is something she can truly boast about.”
He also knows that close friends will probably tease him. “This will just be a purpose in tormenting,” he kidded in a meeting. “It’s ready for harassment.”
Co-stars and previous Sexiest Man Alive winners like Rudd, Ryan Reynolds and Chris Hemsworth are among those prone to irritate him. (Hemsworth, who plays Thor in the Wonder films, was the first Avenger to win People’s yearly honour, which was first handed out to Mel Gibson in 1985.)
Other past honorees incorporate John Legend, Dwayne Johnson, Richard Gere, Idris Elba, Adam Levine, Channing Tatum and David Beckham.
People talked with Evans, 41, at a Georgia farmhouse, where the entertainer discussed finding a superior balance between serious and fun activities. “The most pleasant aspect of my vocation right presently is having a good sense of safety enough to bring my foot off the gas,” he said.
Evans’ 1st film job came in the 2000s, The New Comers, and he played the superhero Johnny Storm in 2 Fantastic 4 films released in 2005 and 2007. Yet, he acquired widespread acclaim in 2011 with the release of Captain America.
Since then, he’s played the superhero in 10 Wonder films, setting out his shield after protecting the universe in Avengers: Final plan in 2019.
Evans has turned into an exceptionally bankable star, voicing the character of Buzz Lightyear in Pixar’s Lightyear film and playing a sadistic assassin attempting to kill Reynolds in Nextflix’s The Dim Man — both released this year.
The entertainer told People he’s pondering marriage and having a family, saying, “That is something I need.”
However, he said he didn’t anticipate talking openly much about his confidential life. “Some things you need just for you or just for my family and friends.”
The Boston local also continues his contribution with the municipal commitment site A Starting Point, which he helped to establish in 2020.
As Evans charts the following piece of his life and vocation, he expects People’s honour to be a milestone.
“It’s something that as I become old and saggy, I can think back on and say, ‘I recollect then…'” Evans said. “I’m fortunate to be in the discussion in any way.”
