LAWRENCE REFLECTS ON ROOKIE STRUGGLES

Assumptions have followed Trevor Lawrence for most of his NFL career, and that subject is the same heading into his sophomore season.

The Jaguars’ No. 1 generally speaking pick in 2021 joined Colin Cowherd on “The Herd” on Monday to talk about the highs and lows of his green bean mission and his energy encompassing this new-look Jaguars company under lead trainer Doug Pederson.

“It was a taxing year, no doubt,” Lawrence told Cowherd. “I’d say I remained quite certain the entire year. There were certainly a few times [where it got hard.] When you’re in a terrible streak — particularly like five, six games in succession — I hadn’t lost that many games my entire career up to that point, so that was certainly a rude awakening.”

Lawrence was not modest about the challenges he confronted coming into the association as the top pick and a youthful perspective genius.

“The primary month or so was testing since I’m the most youthful person, and you have folks that are 10 years more seasoned than you, so the first month you’re attempting to invest your head down and effort and get a handle on it,” he said. “In sports, you regard how individuals play and convey themselves, so I assume I acquired the admiration of my partners pretty speedy, and afterwards, acting naturally was simply trying.

“I think once the season began, our group remained together and attempted to rest on one another to an ever-increasing extent. We had shared regard for each other, and I just attempted to lead as the season went on. I can step more into the position of authority [this season], and it’s been perfect, even in OTAs up to this point. I think this season will be different because we have more administration, from myself, however the folks around me.”

Lawrence proceeded to praise Doug Pederson and his family.

“Our attitude and characters [are similar], and simply how he leads, holds himself and treats individuals [is great]. He doesn’t get excessively high or excessively low. I feel that is essential if you will be a decent lead trainer in the NFL. It’s been extraordinary getting to know him. I believe he’s worked hard to arrange our offseason. There were a lot of changes we expected to make, and I believe he’s made those.”
