I’m A Celebrity 2022: When was the show last in Australia, and who was delegated Queen of the Jungle?

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! is getting ready to start a brand new series, which will see one contestant delegated King or Queen of the Jungle. The 2022 show is the big one as it’s heading back to Australia, interestingly since 2019.

In 2021 and 2020, the show occurred at Gwrych Castle in Abergele, where the first King and Queen of the Castle were delegated. This was expected to the “continued uncertainty” around Covid-19 and international travel.

Last year Emmerdale actor Danny Miller became the second star to win in Wales; the prior year, it was Giovanna Fletcher. Yet, who was the last batch of celebrities in Australia and who won the 2019 series?

Who won I’m A Celebrity 2019?

The last Queen of the Jungle was EastEnders star Jacqueline Jossa. The actress beat Coronation star Andy ‘Kirky’ Whyment to win the show, with Roman Kemp coming in third place.

Speaking to Ant and Dec at the time, she said: “I can’t believe I’ve done all that stuff.” She added, “I feel like I’ve gone in there as one individual and come out as different. I feel like I’ve filled in confidence.”

The mum-of-two continued, “I think it’s so easy to care about other individuals’ thoughts. I attempt to change [trolls’] opinion… I had amazing individuals bigging me up constantly [in the jungle].”

Other stars in the 2019 series included Caitlyn Jenner, Ian Wright, Nadine Coyle, Kate Garraway, Roman Kemp, Adele Roberts, Andrew Maxwell, James Haskell and Myles Stephenson.

As is tradition, the previous winner of I’m A Celebrity has the distinction of returning to the show the following year to crown the new King or Queen of the jungle; in any case, this was impractical for Jacqueline in 2020 because of Covid-19 restrictions.

That year Giovanna Fletcher was delegated Queen of the Castle in Wales. Jacqueline said about her absence: “Individuals have been asking me why I didn’t proceed to hand the crown over. There are two or three reasons. One, we are rehearsing for a West End musical, and I don’t have time to go to Wales and back. Also, we’re in a global pandemic, so it’s not the smartest idea to do that. It’s all socially distanced.

“In different circumstances, I would have wanted to have handed it over to Gi. I wanted it to be her from day one. I feel like I ought to have placed a wager on it!”
