Whittaker’s last episode in the TARDIS will be this fall’s Doctor Who BBC centenary special. The control centre will be given over to Gatwa, a Bafta-winning 29-year-old stage and screen actor celebrated for the job of Eric Effiong in Netflix’s S*x Education. See him talk about that part in this Netflix interview.
In 2020, Gatwa won the Best Actor Award at the Scottish Baftas and was selected for Best Male Performance in a parody program at the current year’s awards, which occur this evening, May eighth. Gatwa’s most memorable episode as the Doctor will air in 2023 when Doctor Who will commend its 60th commemoration. Likewise, he’ll show up in Greta Gerwig’s 2023 Barbie film featuring Margot Robbie ahead of the pack job.
In the authority declaration, returning showrunner Russell T Davies said further subtleties on Gatwa’s Doctor are being proportioned for the present “with the brilliant Jodie’s awe-inspiring finale on the way,” he guarantees “2023 will be terrific”.
“What’s to come is here and it’s Ncuti! Some of the time ability strolls through the entryway and it’s so splendid and striking and splendid, I simply stand back in wonderment and feel extremely grateful. Ncuti amazed us, held onto hold of the Doctor and claimed those TARDIS keys in short order. It’s a distinction to work with him, and a hoot, I can hardly hold back to get everything rolling.”
Gatwa, who admitted to verging on stopping acting before winning the S*x Education job, expressed this about joining Doctor Who.
“There aren’t exactly the words to depict how I’m feeling. A blend of profoundly respected, past invigorated and obviously somewhat terrified. This job and show implies such a great amount to so many all over the planet, including myself, and every last one of my staggeringly capable ancestors has dealt with that remarkable obligation and honor with absolute attention to detail. I will try my highest to do likewise. Russell T Davies is nearly all around as notorious as the Doctor himself and having the option to work with him is a blessing from heaven. His composing is dynamic, invigorating, staggeringly canny and bubbling with risk. An actor’s allegorical jungle gym. The whole group have been so inviting and genuinely give their hearts to the show. Thus as much as it’s overwhelming, I’m mindful I’m joining a truly strong family. Dissimilar to the Doctor, I may just have one heart yet I am giving everything to this show.”
That is everything you can ask, right? Go along with us in offering a hot greeting to Ncuti Gatwa, our next Doctor!
